This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is Books That Made Me Laugh Out Loud. There are a lot of books that make me laugh, but probably not for the same reasons other people would laugh. On more than one occasion, my husband has caught me giggling over something in a book. Here are ten that made me laugh for the right reasons.
Cake Wrecks by Jen Yates: I love these books and the companion website because it’s just so darn ridiculous. You definitely have to be in the right mood to laugh over these, but tears may be shed from the hilarity.
Love Com by Aya Nakahara: This manga is so ridiculous but it’s so funny. I love it a lot.
Rick Riordan books: So many of his books have such a great sense of humor, even if it’s just chapter titles or Apollo’s haikus. I love them!
Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills: This is one of the first YA books I distinctly remember genuinely laughing over since it was so fun.
Toradora! by Yuyuko Takemiya: Another ridiculous manga, I just love these characters and their shenanigans.
Ian Doescher Shakespeare retellings: I cannot believe these exist, but I’m also really glad they exist. Ian Doescher is a mad genius. I love so much, out loud, by myself, while listening to these.
Lumberjanes comics by Noelle Stevenson, Grace Ellis, and Shannon Watters: These comics are so ridiculous, but I love them. They are so fun and hilarious.
Debbie Tung books: Her books are funny and also speak directly to my soul so I love them.
Wayside School books by Louis Sachar: I firmly believe that Louis Sachar is the reason I have the sense of humor that I do. Rereading the Wayside books last year made me realize that his humor level is in tune with mine.
Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson: How could I make a list of books that made me laugh and not include one of the best comic strips ever?
