This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is Books I Read Because Someone Recommended Them to Me. I have a lot of people who recommend me books. Some I’ve read, some I’ve neglected to read, so I thought I’d highlight five books someone recommended to me that I read and enjoyed and five that I still need to read (hopefully soon).

Recommended Books I’ve Read

I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson: A friend gave me this as a Christmas present. I started it, wasn’t interested, and set it aside. But then a few months later, I picked it up and pushed through the part I wasn’t sure about and ended up enjoying it.

Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter: I used to teach a class at my church for middle school girls and two of them were big readers and begged me to read this series. I decided to listen to the audiobooks and while the first one was a little cheesy, they got better as I read so by the end I loved the series and characters.

The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner: A friend from high school recommended this book to me while we were in school together. I didn’t realize until a few years ago that there was a whole series.

Wolf Hollow by Lauren Wolk: A friend recommended this one to me and bought me a copy because she wanted me to read it so badly. It was phenomenal.

Small Spaces by Katherine Arden: My mom read this and mentioned it to me because she said it reminded her of Doctor Who. I don’t normally read spooky books, but I liked this one.

Recommended Books I Need to Read

The Valiant by Lesley Livingston: I’ve basically been told by a great friend that I need to read all of Lesley’s books, but I think I’ll start with this one.

The Hawkweed Prophecy by Irena Brignull: A friend from high school recommended this to me because she thought I’d like it.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne: My mom has been telling me to read this for years.

A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court by Mark Twain: Someone I follow on Instagram did a book recommendation meme in her stories and recommended this. I’m intrigued.

The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer: A close friend bought me a copy of this for Christmas because she thought I’d like it.
