I thought I would read more backlist TBR books in June because of the lack of new books available at my library right now. But I still managed to find new-ish titles and ARCs to read instead. I’m not too disappointed, though, since I managed to read four older books on my TBR list. I also decided to join author Jessica Brody in her 30 books in 3 months challenge. My goal is to count only books I own or ARCs I read during June, July, and August for this challenge (since I know I can read 30 books in that time frame.)

A Conspiracy of Kings by Megan Whalen Turner

Even though this one isn’t focused on Gen, I loved it. Megan just has a way with story and characters in a way that not many authors grasp. I love a good underdog story, and that’s exactly what this one is all about. My favorite part is when Sophos, the main character, pretends to act like Gen to look tough. I don’t care what decisions you had to make, Sophos, you are a precious cinnamon roll.

Salty Kisses by Robin Jones Gunn

I decided to continue this trilogy by reading one installment each month this summer. These are simple, easy, and clean reads if I want something lighter and more heartwarming. I wasn’t at all surprised by the events that happened, but it was nice to tag along as Christy and Todd reunited with some of their Forever Friends.

Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness

As great as the narrators of these audiobooks are, I regret not reading these books instead of listening to them. It had a hard time keeping track of what was happening, and I lost interest very early on while reading. I just wanted it to be over. And that ending? I didn’t like that ending.

A Thousand Nights by E.K. Johnston

This book is so… odd. The writing style is slow paced and a lot of the time it seemed more telling than showing. I was also confused about the magic and how exactly it worked. But I was itching to find out what would happen to the main character and I love the ending. I’m weak for good redemption stories, especially when a strong female character helps with that redemption arc. I can’t decide if I liked it or not because it was just so different.
