This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is Books I’ve Added to my TBR and Forgotten Why. I don’t really add books to my TBR without a reason, even if that reason is just because it sounds interesting to read. So instead, here’s another alphabetical post!

Rules:

  • Credit Alex for the idea, and link back
  • Post at your own pace, do as many or as few letters as you want
  • Post your favourite authors, books and characters (ABCs) for a particular letter of the alphabet

It was pretty easy to come up with authors, books, and characters for the letter S. I had a hard time narrowing down my list so it wasn’t super long!

Authors

Louis Sachar: I have yet to read a book by Louis Sachar that isn’t good. I also blame him for my sense of human. I reread all the Wayside School books recently and laughed my way through the entire series.

Ruta Sepetys: Ruta is a master of historical fiction. All of her books highlight stories that have been lost to the history books. And while some of the stories are absolutely devastating, she finds a glimmer of hope among the tragedy.

Out of the Easy

Dr. Seuss: Okay but who doesn’t like Dr. Seuss?

Lemony Snicket: If I blame Louis Sachar for my sense of humor, then I definitely blame Lemony Snicket for my love of word play and language. There’s just something about his books that are so different than other writing styles.

Maggie Stiefvater: I have a love-hate relationship with Maggie’s books, but gosh, her writing is amazing and she wrote one of my favorite books ever. So yeah, I love her and aspire to be like her.

Books

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys: This book broke me. It’s so well written for the short, snappy chapters, and it gives voice to all sides of this largely forgotten historical event. This book led me to read Ruta’s other books, and each one has been absolutely moving.

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater: This is one of my favorite books ever and I reread it every fall because I love the story so much. It never gets old, and I just cannot handle how much it makes me feel.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo: I love these murder crows! And of course the heist plot is just so utterly fantastic.

I (3)

Some Writer!: The Story of E.B. White by Melissa Sweet: This is such a unique biography about E.B. White. I learned a lot not only about his life but his writing and stories. It was so cool, and I love how inspiring and encouraging it is for artists and creative people.

Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson: The aesthetics of this book are my jam. I love the libraries and grimoires and the characters. It’s super atmospheric and I love the sense of adventure and magic.

Characters

Samwise Gamgee from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien: Okay, but Sam is the greatest literary character ever. Fight me, bro.

Sean Kendrick from The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater: Sean Kendrick is basically a part of my soul. (And Puck is the other part.) Ugh, he makes me want to both weep and scream.

Smaug from The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien: Wait, your listing an evil, raging dragon who murdered a bunch of dwarves and took over their home as one of your favorite book characters? Yes, yes, I am. He’s a great adversary.

S (1)

Stanley Yelnats from Holes by Louis Sachar: Who doesn’t love Stanley?

Gwen Stacy from Spider-Gwen comics by Marvel: If I was a comic book character, I would die for Gwen Stacy. She’s one of my favorite superhero characters at the moment, and I just love her story. She’s great in Into the Spider-Verse, but dang, you’re missing out if you don’t read her comics.

Which authors, books, and characters do you love that begin with the letter S?
