This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is Character Freebie (any topic you want that deals with book characters!). At first, I wasn’t sure what to focus on with this, but then I thought I’d make it fun and share my favorite “dragon” characters from books.

Saphira from The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini: Saphira is basically the queen of dragons in my opinion. She’s the reason I love dragons as much as I do. Her sass is honestly the best thing to come from this series.

Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell: I love both movie and book Toothless because they are just so different. Book Toothless is small and sassy and demands fish or jokes to do anything and honestly: same.

Eustace Clarence Scrubbs from Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis: I didn’t always like Eustace because he acts like a brat, but I love his story arc (almost as much as I love Edmund’s). He goes from being this stuck-up, know-it-all brat to having a life-changing moment because he was turned into a dragon and rescued my Aslan. Seriously, my heart cannot take it.

Falkor from The Neverending Story by Michael Ende: I don’t remember a whole lot of The Neverending Story because it’s been buried by so many other books, but I know Falkor was my favorite part of it. I love that he’s not the typical fantasy dragon, but a luck dragon.

The dragonets from Wings of Fire by Tui T. Sutherland: I pretty much love all the dragonets in Sutherland’s series, whether they were the original dragonets of destiny or the ones that come after. They are all so great and have distinct personalities.

Festus from Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan: He may not be a “real” dragon, but I think Festus counts. I mean, Leo created him and he’s helped the demigod gang out of more than one scrape. Who doesn’t want to ride a mechanical dragon?

Regidor from the DragonKeeper Chronicles by Donita K. Paul: It’s been ages since I read a book by Donita K. Paul, but I love her dragons! Mainly because she has so many different types of dragons. But the meech dragons are the best, and Regidor is my favorite. He is so dramatic.

Fyrian from The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill: I have mixed feelings about The Girl Who Drank the Moon, but I loved Fyrian. He is such a precious little dragon thing and he comes so far. *sniffles*

Kozu and Shadow from The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli: The Last Namsara blew me away because of the dragon mythology, and Kozu and Shadow play a huge part in helping Asha realize who she is. I can’t say more without spoiling the book, but it wrecks me every time I read it.

Smaug from The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien: This list would be incomplete without the best dragon of fantasy. Although Smaug may be a villain, he’s still a noteworthy character. He’s clever and greedy and he just really needs people to leave him in peace to sleep away his grumpiness, okay?
