This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is Favorite Couples In Books. It was so hard to narrow down to just ten (or, I guess, eleven). There are so many series with multiple couples that I just adore. Here are some of my favorites.
Anne and Gilbert from Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery: If I have to choose just one couple to be my ultimate OTP, I will always choose Anne and Gilbert. I love the evolution of their relationship from enemies to best friends to lovers. Gilbert is basically perfect and he balances Anne out perfectly. *sigh*
Laura and Almanzo from Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder: These two get a boost because they are a real life couple! When I was younger, I never cared for the later books in the Little House series because Laura was older and getting married. But I recently reread them, and I appreciate the later books so much more for her relationship with Almanzo. These Happy Golden Years is so swoon-worthy.
Cress and Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer: I love all the couples in this series, but Cress and Thorne are my favorite. Mainly because of Thorne, but they are just so adorable. Cress learns to be brave for Thorne, and Thorne learns to be better for Cress. I just love them… *sobs*
Esta and Harte from The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell: These two are ruining my life at the moment after the events of The Devil’s Thief. There relationship has so much tension, and I can’t deal. I need answers.
Emma and Knightley from Emma by Jane Austen: These two are my favorite Austen couple mainly because Knightley is my favorite Austen hero. But I like how Knightley balances Emma out and I appreciate Emma’s journey in realizing why Knightley is the only one for her.
Percy and Annabeth from Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan: These two are just too cute for me. I love that they started off as semi-friends and over the course of their crazy adventures learn to trust and love each other. I mean, these two literally walked through hell together. I can’t.
Howl and Sophie from Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones: Where do I begin with these two? The entire book they are bickering back and forth like an old married couple so I just love that they’re like “Well, why not just be a couple?” Sophie puts Howl in his place, and Howl gives Sophie a reason to lighten up a bit. I love them.
Sean and Puck from The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater: Their relationship just slays me. It’s a soft, natural kind of relationship that happens out of the blue but fits perfectly. I remember the first time I read the book and I couldn’t quite get over their relationship and how right it felt.
Meg and Calvin from A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle: Meg and Calvin’s friendship into romance and marriage is beautiful. Calvin never saw Meg for her flaws, and Meg understands Calvin in a way other people don’t. They are just adorable.
Gabi and Marcello/Luca and Lia from the River of Time series by Lisa T. Bergren: The couples in this book series are some of my favorites. The knights are handsome and swoon worthy, the girls are badass and fierce. I love that over the course of the series we see them fall in love, get married, and even start a family. It’s rare to find that in a YA series and done in a careful, graceful way.
